{style session} Sunday Afternoon / Layered Look
I love a layered look, and must admit that I am sometimes guilty of over layering my ensemble. I will sacrifice a comfortable body temp just to wrap a scarf around my neck, or add a cardigan to my outfit, even in the summertime. Believe it or not, this is probably one of the ONLY instances where I am willing to let fashion win over comfort, especially on a Sunday afternoon hanging out at my local coffee house.
Layering is the easiest way to create wardrobe versatility and incorporate mixed pattern, textures, and colors to create endless interesting outfit combinations that keep our wardrobes from going stale! This goes back to one of my basic fashion rules…. Build your wardrobe with versatile basics that stand the test of time, then add the trend/fashion colors, prints, styles, and accessories with each new approaching season to keep your wardrobe fresh and new!
The key to a successful layered look is keeping your look sleek and balanced. If you add a few layers and accessories on top, keep it simple on bottom {and vice versa}. Also {as a general rule} keep more fitted items closer to the body. The exception to this rule is when cinching a waistline with a belt, tied button down, or cropped top layer {jacket/sweater/vest}. Belts will tie it all together and keep it in place, while wearing a top layer that is cropped or sits at the natural waist will keep the look sleek, while highlighting the waistline.
my wardrobe basics:
sleeveless maxi dress / Nation LTD
quilted leather vest / Calvin Klein
my added trend pieces:
gold star slub-knit sweater / Jessica Simpson
wool round-brim boater hat / h&m
gold heel boots / Simply Be
friendship bracelets {far left} / Threads of Friendship, {center} Marc by Marc Jacobs, {right} Michael Kors
Stella Chronograph Stainless Steal Watch in Rose / Fossil
I have been wearing my class ring a lot lately, and I love it more now than I did back in HS!
