{styling work} Plus Size Model Tinder Badhesha for PMM
As I mentioned in a previous post, I recenty headed to NYC to style plus size models Tinder Badhesha and Allison McGevna in two unique fall fashion editorials, both highlighting the prominent 90’s plus size fashion trend for PLUS Model Magazine’s September issue.
Tinder’s editorial was sponsored exclusively by Mynt 1792, and we chose to take a “throwback” approach to the creative direction of the shoot, focusing on all the traditional nineties grunge elements, with a fresh, modern twist.
Our approach for this editorial was definitely bold! We wanted to be able showcase these pieces in a creative way that highlighted the importance of the nineties influence, and that was completely different than anything we had seen from the brand. That is the beauty of a fashion editorial… we can take chances, do something different, and showcase the garment, and the model in a way that we often do not get to see in the plus size fashion. This is the tricky part…. we are conditioned to seeing very commercial, safe, and sellable imagery for plus size models and plus size fashion, so seeing editorial imagery that is not as traditionally “pretty” is not as widely embraced.
This was the first time I had the chance to work with gorgeous Eastern Indian plus size model, Tinder Badhesha, and she is an absolute gem! She captured the essence of this modern grunge girl, and brought our PMM vision to life!
I am in LOVE with this editorial! Any chance I get to showcase plus size fashion in a fresh and innovative way, I will definitely take the opportunity! Here is one of the looks from the shoot…
Those of you that know me, are completely aware {and probably sick of hearing about} how much I adore the nineties! I seriously love everything about the era… alternative music, great movies, the Seattle grunge lifestyle, and my overall memories of joy and freedom I experienced during that time in my life {I talked a bit about it here}. Flashback to 96′, when I drove an orange 1973 Volkswagen Squareback, my wardrobe consisted of band t-shirts, men’s vintage Levi’s, flannel shirts, my purple Doc Martens and my favorite beauty item was my Revlon “Rum Raisin” lipstick. My world literally revolved around going to concerts, getting tickets for upcoming concerts, hanging out at the local coffee shop, and wishing I lived in Seattle. This era will always hold a special place in my heart, and it is exciting to see fashion’s modern, refined interpretations, as well as traditional throwback styles that are at the forefront of fall’s fashion trends this season.
