Generations of Style
In celebration of mother’s day, I have teamed up with Gwynnie Bee to honor all the amazing mother figures in our lives and how their style inspires ours!
My personal style is classic meets trend, and when I take a moment to think about how my style was initially influenced as a young girl, I immediately think of the two most important women in my life… mom and grandma.
When I was young, my mom always dressed super hip and trendy, to the point that sometimes we would even share clothes {how cute is she in that middle pic with her crop top, printed shorts, wayfarers and fanny pack!?} She was never afraid to take fashion chances and find creative ways to make the trends work {which is now a huge part of my style mantra}. As a tall, plus size adolescent in the 90’s, shopping was extremely difficult. Mom and I would spend A LOT of time trying things on, searching for options, and feeling frustrated with the fit of almost everything. She was always there by my side, helping work through the frustration I felt, and helping me find creative solutions to express myself in fashion. Luckily the grunge era came shortly after, where I literally lived in band t-shirts an vintage men’s Levis.
My grandma has a more classic style aesthetic. She worked in human resources for a bank, so she had a professional and polished wardrobe of 80’s amazingness, and I used to spend hours playing dress up in her closet. Outfit after outfit I would model the fully accessorized, head-to-toe looks for her, and still to this day she tells me that I gave her lots of inspiration with all the outfit combinations I put together. I was working as a stylist before I even knew I would make it my profession!
To celebrate these two amazing women and my classic meets trend personal style, I chose this striped handkerchief hem dress from Gwynnie Bee, and paired it with a few of my favorite versatile go-to’s from my closet to add classic polish to the look.
Both of these amazing women have shaped who I am today, not only in fashion, but in all aspects of my life, and I am so grateful to have so much of both of them within me.
